Anaphylaxis First Aid

Introduction

The ability to deal with sudden or severe allergic reaction, or anaphylaxis, in childcare settings is becoming critically important.

40% of children now suffer from some form of allergy - an understanding of allergy and how to deal with it is something that cannot be overlooked.

The course is also strongly recommended for any first aider who may have to deal with a colleague or visitor who is prone to anaphylaxis.

Candidates

This course is for anyone who needs training in how and when to use an auto injector in the treatment of anaphylaxis.

Content

The course covers the prevention, recognition and treatment of severe allergic reaction including the use of auto-injectors and CPR.

Specifically the course includes ...
  • Allergic Reaction
  • Communication and Casualty Care
  • Dealing with Unconscious Casualties
  • Use of Auto-injectors e.g. Epipen and Anapen
  • CPR - for adults, children and infants
  • Primary Survey

Course

The Course is delivered over a period of 3 hours … but read on …

The Course can be delivered during the day, in the evening or at the weekend. We have no problems fitting in with existing work shift patterns and are happy to teach the course early morning, late evening or overnight if required!

The way in which the course is delivered and the materials used vary dependant on the nature of the group and their existing knowledge of anaphylaxis.

The Course can be tailored to reflect your particular industry if delivered as a ‘closed’ course – that is solely to you or your employees.

Individuals are welcome to join an ‘open’ course where participants will be drawn from a wide variety of different sectors.

Assessment

The qualification is assessed through return demonstration and oral questioning by the tutor throughout the whole of the course.

Certification

All successful candidates will be issued with certification recognising their completion of the course which is valid for a period of 3 years.

Towards the end of the 3 year period all candidates will need to complete the course again in order to maintain their qualification.

Entry Requirements

Participants wishing to complete this qualification must be aged 12 years or above.

Where the candidate is under 16 years of age they must be accompanied by an adult. An adult may accompany up to two young people aged 12 to 15.

It is recommended that participants have a minimum of Level 1 or equivalent in literacy or numeracy.
