At the end of the course participants will be able to …
- state their role in dealing with a fire emergency situation
- identify fire safety hazards in their workplace
- state how fires can be prevented in their workplace
- select and safely use appropriate fire firghting equipment
- state their individual responsibility in the workplace fire evacuation procedure
The course is made up of the following sections …
Section 1: Fire Prevention
- the fire triangle
- identify fire hazards and potential hazards in the workplace and corrective action required to make area safe
- types of fire
Section Two: Fire Extinction
- identify differences in fire fighting equipment.
- fire extinguisher symbols
- contents of extinguishers
- hose / nozzle
- match correct equipment to type of fire
- safe and effective use of fire extinguishers
- personal safety
- safe use of fire blanket
- to fight or not to fight
Section Three: Fire Evacuation
- action to take when you discover a fire
- action to take when you hear the fire alarm
- calling the emergency services
- do’s and don’ts during fire evacuation
- the assembly point
- assisting the Fire Brigade and what information they require
- contingency plans – should all or part of the workplace become out of bounds
Section Four: Case Study
- group exercise to consolidate the learning objectives
Course

The Course is generally delivered over a half day (3 hour) period … but read on …
We have no problems fitting in with existing work shift patterns and are happy to teach the course early morning, late evening or overnight if required!
The way in which the Course is delivered and the materials used vary dependant on the nature of the group and their existing knowledge of fire safety.
The Course can be tailored to reflect your particular work environment or situation if delivered as a ‘closed’ course – that is solely to you or your employees.
Assessment

Success on the course is assessed by the satisfactory return demonstration of good fire safety techniques, throughout the course, and the completion of a short multiple choice test completed at the end of the course. Successful participants are awarded a certificate of attendance.
